I've been scared in the past having to go through the experience of rebuilding my Auto Tranny on my Gen3 Camry and would like some feedback from you guys to ease some of that lingering anxiety.

-How long have you been boosted? and what psi?
-Do you mash the peddle frequently?
-Have you noticed any slipping?
-Any future plans to beef up tranny?

I know about level10, synth ATF and coolers. The truth is, I'm still kinda apprehensive. and a 5-spd conversion is not an option. If you've already modded your AT, what have you done so far?

Where do you guys stand? I really should get therapy to get over my fear of tranny rebuilds :drinking:

Well i can't really say that anyone knows the long term effects, but i don't think it will hurt the tranny that much. Power doesn't really kill the tranny, its the heat. I read a thing that 4 out of 5 tranny failures are from heat. With 4psi you should be fine. If you change your pulley then i'd reccomend getting an auto tranny cooler

I have a GEN5 V6 auto tran Camry with a supercharger and NO EBC...TRD told me the original EBC was not compatible so they need to work on one...should be in about 6 months. Well I could'nt wait...couple of times when I would punch I noticed the RPM's go up but no pull...I believe tranny slipping and not spinning my tires. Anyways I took my car to a place called JMO USA who mods torque converters not only for TRD Japans GS400's but other makes also. I am happy with the results. Now I can punch and get a smooth pull with no slip, the tranny shifts at higher rpms closer to the increased torque end, and when I drive conservative...I get better gas milege:)

Could you give us some more details about this? Cost, what all was done, etc....

Thanks

Everyday driving and some peddle mashing as a rule won't have adverse effects on your automatic tranny, however, spinning your tires is absolutely brutal on your torque converter. Not so much spinning the tires can cause damage, but when you actually hook-up. Your converter is designed to "lock-up" at a particular rpm, and usually has reached this point while spinning. When you hook-up, you will lose rpm, and that can cause your converter to unlock in a dramatic fashion, causing some serious strain on its welded seams. I personally grenaded the torque converter in my '72 Cutlass, blowing the inspection cover off and sending a coupla' quarts of tranny fluid onto my headers and exhaust (you can imagine the effects of that). Luckily, there were no long term effects to the tranny :fadein:

Like myself, you're from "the great white north" and it's difficult for us to find these type of service here. I've looked around here in Toronto and have come up empty handed. As you already probably know, shipping stuff across the border can get expensive. If you happen to find anything closer to home, pls let me know.

btw- to quote ppl, click the [QUOTE] button on the top right corner silly, makes things much easier :drinking:

I have talked to Level 10, some day I might do that. You have to remove the valve body and ship it to them for modification. I have not been able to find anybody local to do that kind of work yet.

This is JMO USA's site:

http://www.jmousa.com/us/index.shtml

Can't e-mail them though. They're all Japanese so a little hard to understand. A couple of them were Toyota Master mechanics. They get converters shipped to them from all over. I believe Honda tuning magazine did an article but I can't find it right now. It cost $1150. They modded the torque converter and installed the tranny cooler. It took 2 days. This included labor to remove, reinstall and new fluids.
