Place and cost to install TRD lips in a bodyshop?

Place and cost to install TRD lips in a bodyshop?

this is more of a "local" question. Do u guys recommend any particular bodyshop for installation in or near zipcode 91106, pasadena, ca?

i called a few shops most of them refused to give me a ballpark figure for the installation. One did say it'll cost about 500 to mount it. how much do you guys think it should normally cost? I feel 500 is a rip off...

:x

thanks all

If you want to install it I can help you with that depending on the day you want to do this by... You dont need to go to a shop.

I work in pasadena but I live in Covina/San Dimas area which isn't too far. If you have a garage at your place its all you really need and some basic tools.

Every shop is going to have a diff charge.. But this kit is pretty easy to install yourself.

I installed it for my buddy and all I asked in return was some conversation during the installation and a box of pizza afterwards

its pretty easy to do yourself... ive never done any mods to any car before and i managed to go through it with the help of a buddy

if you got the kit new, the instructions will help you a lot

also, itll be a good idea to wash your car GOOD especially where the kit it going to lay on the body of the car and its also wise to do in sunny weather

Rather than talk to a bodyshop over the phone, take the kit to them, if they see how easy it is..they will lower their price.
My camry trd lips costed 250 for the paint and install (that included flexi paint additive).

But if the kit is already prepainted to your car color, do a diy on the installation!

i did mine myself with the help of my foot to hold up one side of the side skit while attaching the other. It should come with adhesive tape already pre-fit on the lip kit. (Otherwise get 3M double sided tape about 1/2" in width)

quick guide:

1. Clean surface area on car to which the body kit will be attached. I used a little rubbing alchohol after a fresh car wash.

2. If you have help, pre-fit the kit pieces on the car, line it up, make sure thats how you want it, and use lipstick to make a line. (Making sure any screw holes you have are lined up)

3. Use the adhesive promoter swabs that come with the kit and apply to surface area on the car where kit will be attached. (Not sure what the 'promoter' does, but if you didnt get any with the kit, im sure any hardware store will have it)

4. Remove protective backing from the tape on the kit pieces.

5. CAREFULLY place the pieces to match up with your cute lipstick marking. If you get it stuck on a spot that you dont want, its very hard to remove and refit the piece....trust me

6. Apply moderate pressure with your hands to the kit in all areas that are attached via tape.

7. Screw any hardware on the pieces (ie. the screws near the fender on each side of the side skirt. And try not to get the car wet for a couple days.

EDIT PER WTF??:

ALSO make sure you jack up the rear of the car and take off the rear wheels to be able to access the rear lip screw holes.

8. cost = 0 fun = 9 sense of achievement =10 visual aesthetics = 99

This is a BASIC outline.

^not bad of an outline, but also remember that the rear has to be jacked up so you can screw in the read part of the side skirt with the wheels removed

Easily do-able with just a little help. I installed my old kit with my little sisters help..no joke. You won't need a body shops help because the fitment of the trd lips are perfect, no need to modify them.

It's probably the easiest exterior mod you can do to your car. It takes about an hour and you don't have to take your wheels off (if you have a lift). The instructions from Toyota say you have to take your wheels off and it takes about 4 hours.

THANK YOU for all the replies!!

This kit is used, and has only the old no-longer-stick adhesive on there. I guess I gotta start from scratch. Also I've heard that I need to drill couple holes in the front because the kit is from a GEN1.5 and my car is GEN1.

Anyway, here's the more detailed question. Since the used kit didn't come with screws or anything, what size/type screws do I need to get?

also, can anyone show me a link to a doubleside tape that's safe for installation on a car? There are just too many in my local hardware store

Home depot, lowes...Honestly!

3M THIN double sided tape, auto shops know this tape, they use it for installing ventshades as well. OR you can also ask the auto shop for the 5lbs tape (its non 3m), i've tried that one too (its was civic forums told me to do a while back...) and that one works really well..but its tought to get that. I've not seen that in a while tho'
