New brakes

New brakes

Postby lasolara » Wed Mar 22, 2006 3:12 pm

Hi ,

I was told that my brakes are at less than 25% so I will need them replaced soon. The dealer quoted a price of $189. Is that a fair price or could I do better? Any rec's for a place in the L.A area would be greatly appreciated. My dealer btw was Marina Del Rey Toyota.

Thank you! :lilangel:

Um what you mean by brakes????
Cause if it pads or rotors you can do that yourself or have your man do it.
Maybe one of the other members here on the board that live near you can do it for you....
Cause $189 is alot of just brakes.......... if it pads.......

Yeah, its really easy job. It should only take you like a half an hour to do. Even unexperienced people can do it. Get a haynes manual it has an explanation for it.

I'm pretty sure she's referring to the pads. But its a simple job if you have the tools at home. If not my recommendation is buy the pads at toyota and bring it to another shop and have them do it. You must resurface the rotors when your installing new pads, if you don't you will have bad and uneven wearing on the pads. $189 sounds about right at the dealership, but that's just the dealer prices. Toyota Parts plus a local shop's labor will run you maybe 120 at most. But it all depends.

Good Luck

Thank you for your suggestions. Yes, I should have clarified that it was the pads that needed replacing.

Gosh, I don't really know if I can do it myself. I've never worked on my car before. (Yes, typical girl I know) I suppose I'll just look into buying them and then having them installed separately.

unless Katie is some big, burly transvestite butch i don't think she'll be able to do this job on her own.

as long as you take it to a Toyota dealer to get the brakes done you should be fine.

is that bit about resurfacing rotors for new pads true? i gotta get rid of the pads i have now, they are noisy and dust like crazy, only about 5k miles on em. I installed brembo rotors at the same time so they are practically new. feel like its a waste to get them resurfaced...
