Electrical problem

Postby SolDoubt » Fri Mar 24, 2006 10:27 am

Hey everyone,

I have a problem with my car. Everytime I get out of it I get SHOCKED, and this isnt just some little shock, its the kinds that hurt. I'm not sure if I have a grounding problem somewhere but I havent touched any electrical components of the car. Does anyone have any ideas where this is coming from?

It might be because of my dad because he does some electrical work (well duh  it probably is) but what could be causing it?

Thanx

shock

Do you have cloth seats? Does the shock depend on what kind of pants you're wearing, or the humidity? Do you get shocked if you touch the frame (any metal) BEFORE getting out of the car?

If you don't get shocked by touching the frame before getting out, keep a finger on the frame when you get out. (to ground yourself) You are probably experiencing static electricity.

On the other hand: if the shock is a constant, finger-in-a-light-socket kind of shock: there's something wrong. but I suspect its static. My last car would do it. But leather does not cause this. (SLE)

this happens to me too. all the time.

to prevent further static shock. wear protective gloves when driving. i also find that a face mask is helpful, but not necessary.

The static from the car is the same idea as rubbing your feet across the floor with socks on and touching someone.

you might wanna beef up your ground wires to the negative battery. My cousins mustang would always give out HUGE shocks because of his system in addition to it being a crappy domestic. We beefed up ground points in certain spots and had it go the the negative battery terminal and BAM no more shocks... well every now and then but for the most part no more thunderbolt sized ones.

I'm in the process of paying for my set of ground wires from V6performance. might cost premium but at least I can be worry free of issues.
