Looking for suggestions on exhaust systems

I'm looking to make an exhaust upgrade, however I'm not sure which way to go. As near as I can tell, there are 4 upgrades one can make to their Solara: the TRD muffler, the APEXi World Sport cat back, the GReddy Evo cat back, and the Tanabe exhaust system.
I don't want the car to sound "ricey" at all, but a little noise should be in order 'cause the factory OEM exhaust is soooooooo quiet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, or if any members have a "sound byte" of their car with the exhaust done, that would even be better. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest JIC Exhaust w/ Silencer.
Not too loud but forceful enough.

I heard Apex is too quite.
TRD is a muffler not a cat back.
GReddy and Tanabe is currently unavailable

The only comparison I can give is with the JIC and TRD muffler.

I think the TRD is overall louder, and does have drone during highway speeds. But I never felt that it was nuisance. The tone is low and stays pretty much throughout all RPM ranges. I like the finish look of the tip unlike other exhaust tips where it just looks like the end of a pipe.

With the silencer on, the JIC is softer, but I feel has almost the same low tone as the TRD muffler. It is loud during idle, but tends to soften when at cruising speeds and highway speeds. If you push it, say uphill it will tend to give you a "fart can" sound, not loud or that pronounced, but it is a different tone. It is definitely louder than OEM. The tip is larger as well. The down pipe and muffler section tend to sit lower just the way the system was made. To me, I think they made smoother longer elbows and 45's so it tends to sit low. I have scraped the cannister going down my driveway which is somewhat steep, at the low point I have maybe an 1.5" before I hit and that is when I enter at an angle. I don't know how the other systems sit.

It depends what you want. I have the Greddy on my Camry and JIC on my Solara. TRD is just a rear section (muffler) unit. It has a lower moderately agressive sound. APEXi, Greddy and JIC are all full cat back systems. Of the full catback systems, APEXi is quietest but kind of looks like a muffler w/ tip. Many people like it. Greddy is piped nicely but tends to drone at highway speeds. JIC has a hint of fartcan sound to it at times, is a full stainless system but hangs low. Personally, I'm torn. I like the Greddy and how it's designed but it tends to drone. The JIC sounds fine but the piping hangs low and further back. If you have a body kit it doesn't matter though. Good Luck.

It only drones for me when im driving on streets. I have yet to hear a drone when im on the freeway. Its a nice drone though

I have a Greddy Evo. I did not like the drone from 2000-3000 rpm, but loved the sound otherwise. I was going to sell it, but someone mentioned putting the Apexi 115mm silencer on. I did that and like it very much now. It's slightly louder than stock, quieter than greddy without silencer, and got rid of the drone.

To whoever advised me to try the Greddy with the silencer, thanks.

The Apex'i and GReddy are similarly priced, maybe $400-$550 range. I can't speak for the other ones. With a supercharger, they'll get you 10-15 hp at the wheels. Without a supercharger, the gains will be minimal, especially with an I4. They'll fit on a 2000 Camry.

Well the advantage to the greddy catback system is its all prebent piping and it will fit very nicely. They'll have to do a few mods to get the O2 sensor to fit in, most likely they'll just want to replace the tip and not touch the pipping. If you really want the greddy i though i read on camryman.org that some place got 10 of them in stock.

I have the apexi world sport and i love it. I did want something quiet for inside the cabin. Its got a very nice sound. Its more pronounced than the stock exhaust, but its no where near loud, more of a sweet sound.

God I wish I lived in the States. The GReddy Evo costs between $1000 & $1100 up here. The APEXi World Sport will run you about $850. Even with the exchange, I'm still getting screwed ............ and not even a kiss first!

The JIC exhaust I got for 700.00 and I live in Hawaii. I don't know if that is a great deal though. It took awhile to get, I ordered in Nov and I just got a week ago. But some of the delay was due to a mix-up in the order.
