Lowering Springs

Lowering Springs

Postby FLASH » Mon Feb 17, 2003 10:27 pm

I know this has been discussed a million times, but I couldn't find a simple answer to my question. On partznet.com they are selling TRD 1.25" Lowering Springs for some $240.00 Everyone who lowered their ride has also replaced the struts and done other such work. I was wondering if anythign else NEEDS to be done, or if I could just buy the springs, bring them to a mechanic/autobody and say "Put these on for me" Thanx

ok..i guess i'll try to take a stab at this one in layman's terms since i have very little car knowledge

basically, you can have the place just put them in to lower the car..but it will but strain on your struts..so you'd eventually want to change the too...sooo..you can either put on just the springs and get struts later..or save yourself the headache and take care of it in one shot.

then there's the whole ideal eibach/tokico combo crap stuff..lol..you get the idea :)

missay put it perfectly. i was gonna do that first too, i didnt feel like spending another 3-400 on struts after getting the springs, but i was convince by fellow members that doing it all at in one shot will make life easier. and the ride quality w/ aftermarket struts is a lot better. good luck w/ ur decision, im doing my install tomorrow. :D

Missay and Peter are correct. You can use your OE struts with lowering springs, but why would you want to? They will wear out quicker, so you'll end up replacing them, anyway. Also, the stock struts were not designed to work with lowering springs, so you won't get the intended performance out of your new springs. Also, regarding who can do the work; your best bet is to call a performance shop. When I called for quotes on this work, I got prices ranging from $200 to $600. You shouldn't have to pay more than low $200 range for this work, if the shop knows what they're doing. If they have to consult a guide to give you a quote, forget about it.

very nicely put :D

BTW the true drop on the TRDs is about 1.6". They are the same as the eibachs which you can get for a lot cheaper

just installed mine today. it was pretty easy, the only reason it took me a while was because of the compressing. compressing springs suck! i suggest you do it yourself. feels a lot better when you're done and save yourself 200+

you can rent them at autozone for 43 bux, and its just a deposit. you get it back when u return it, so its basically free. btw, check out pictures at my cardomain site. the link is in my sig.

as far as difficulty, it wasnt too bad. just gotta have the right tools. make sure you get a good torque wrench that can go as low at 5 and and high as 250. might be a little expensive, but its well worth it. you'll need it again in the future if you do a lot of DIY's like me. if u have questions, hit me up
