Hey everybody, what's the best way to run wires thruogh your firewall? I need to run the wires for my nitrous electrical through the firewall to run a switch, but have no Idea of the best way to do it. How has anyone else doine this before when installing speaker wires or whatever?

Its really easy actually... if you look up under the steering column, you'll see some cutouts in the rubber-ish stuff covering the firewall. Just pop them out and it'll expose some thinner portions of the firewall. Take a drill and make a hole, you'll be all set.

You'll have to make a hole in the fire retardant material on the other side. Take a long screwdriver and just poke it through. If you can find one long enough, just tape the wires you need to run to the end of the screwdriver and pull them through. Let me know if you want some pics, but if you take a good look you should see what I'm talking about.

Sounds good. I'll shek it out if I decide to finish this up tonight, or I'll be doing it tomorrow. I need to have it done for Friday to test the nitrous at the track though, so I'll let you know how it worked and then after the track I'll put up some new times for my car.

I think I'm going to need pictures of where these cutouts under the steering column are, I'm seeing nothing.

it's above and to the left of your brake pedal. it's a fat propellor looking piece.

use a grommet too to ensure the wire won't get snagged on your firewall. this will prevent the wire from getting grounded.

Whati do id find a rubber groument in the firewall wit a bundle of wires already goin' through them and just take a screw driver and poke a hole in the rubber near the wires and run them through.

if you find that rubber piece (fat propellor shape) by your brake pedal, you remove it and bore a hole into it with a drill and a "unibit". Image

behind that rubber piece is the firewall. there's nothing behind that in the engine bay, so you can also bore a hole with the unibit there and provide your own grommet:

i'd start a pilot hole first with a 1/8" bit to make things easier.

you're hole will end up on the right side of the brake booster in the engine bay.

Ok well I'm going to try and locate this propellor rubber thing, and if that doesn't work out I'll go the passenger side route. I just dfon't see any kind've cutout or anything anywhere in that rubber piece. It would be the same for manual or automatic right? or do you think maybe it's only that way for auto and that's where my clutch is?

oh...sorry. i didn't realize you had a manual tranny. no wonder you're not seeeing it. there may still be room to the left of the clutch, but it may be difficult getting your drill in that position. if it's too much of a hassle for a MT car, i'd say run it through your passenger side grommet.

yeah i have a manual too and u might be better off running it through the passenger side... i had to make a small cut (less than an inch) to get the power cable for my amp... it's really not that hard.

Well the wires are all disconnected now, I just want to know how to do it so tomorrow when I finish rewiring I can get it done and go to the track tomorrow night.

Where on the thing on the passenger side did you guys go through? The only space on my drivers side where theres a space to get through runs into the fender well. I'd really rather not run my wires across and back, but if I have to I have to.
