DIY question: Spray Painting Interior

Hey fellas,

I'm thinkin about spray-painting the 'wood trim', the center console, and part of the instrument cluster.

Any suggestions/pointers?

I'm thinkin...
Step one - sand down the glossy fake plastic wood lol
Step two - primer all the parts
Step three - spray the paint on
Step four - finish with some sort of gloss?

The middle wood trim pieces on the dash is held on by clips.
As for the ones on the door they're glued in, but you can popped them off and re-glue them back on.

If it's plastic, perhaps some of that Krylon Fusion will work? It actually bonds to the plastic, so instead of being "on" the plastic, it's in it.

i used that in my engine bay. on the plastic fuel rail cover with the Toyota symbol.

i attempted to sand down the shift gear selector surround plate and primer it, but in the end, i probably should have just used this Krylon paint. it bonds to the plastic so you wouldn't need to "prep" it with sanding or primer.

you can buy it at Wal-mart; check the can, it'll say that it can withstand high temperatures.

Whatever you do, be patient w/ the process. I completely re-painted the interior of my old Civic.
The 1st attempt, I wasn't patient. I had to re-gut and re-paint all over again.

Just be patient and very meticulous.
Good luck w/ it.

I agree to be patient with it. What color are you doing?
I also did the interior of my old Chevrolet Beretta Z26. It came out tight.
There is also a product called BullDog Adhesive that is for plastic and it allows the the paint to be drawn to it and stick to the plastic. Only minor gentle sanding is required.

You guys were right when it comes to being patient.
I hated waiting for each layer to dry, and the sanding was a b.....

It's not exactly perfect, and I may go back and REDO it or apply more Clearcoat/Lacquer or whatever its called.

I painted the 2 plastic pieces of wooden trim on the doors and the ones on the dash. I also painted the plastic piece in the intrument panel and the center console including the piece around the shifter. My car's silverstream so I thought the silver would accent the interior much better than the 'wood' and black plastic. Just hope it doesn't look to 'ricey'. haha
