is it an aftermarket alarm? does the door unlock when you use the power lock switch on the door, and NOT from the remote?

if it's an aftermarket alarm, the unlock tap may need to be re-done. if you want to check it yourself, it's probably tapped in the driver's kick panel with a 3M scotchlock connector. if you've no idea what i'm talkin' about then just take it back to where you got the alarm installed.

I believe it came with the car.

It's only from the remote.

it may have come with the car but what alarm is it!?! someone could have installed an aftermarket alarm in it and sold it to you implying that it's naturally part of the car.

one way to tell if it's a factory remote is to look on the back of the remote and if it has a Toyota logo on it, then it's a dead giveaway. go back to the factory.

did you try to unlock the car from the drivers door switch?

should be a wire check under the steering wheel column for any broken wires. I can tell you which color wire to look for when I work on Friday night

the lock and unlock connections from your alarm might need to be reversed. do you have a remote? does the remote do the same thing?

if your car is doing this and you DON'T have a remote, you probably have an aftermarket alarm installed that hasn't been disconnected.

if you DO have a remote, and it's doing the same thing (UNLOCKING when you press the LOCK/ARM button on the remote) then the connections may need to be reversed.

No, the remote works just fine.. as the key does when you put it in the door and turn right twice (unlocks all doors). The only time it does this is when I turn the key or start the car.

your unit needs to be replaced. what brand of keyless entry/alarm system do you have?

with the door shut properly and the ignition ON, the doors should lock. chances are that the circuit board of the unit is f*cked.

i've seen weird things like this happen on "no-name" brand alarms before, and at that the only advice i can give is to get a whole new system or a replacement unit.

My car doesn't have an aftermarket alarm. The remote for it only has lock/unlock/panic on the back. When you press the lock button, it only locks.. doesn't make any beep noise like I've seen before. The dealer said I do not actually have an alarm system...

but, one day I opened up my door and popped my hood, lock the doors back. I went and opened the hood and the frickin car started honking at me like an alarm would... so I'm not sure.

The doors unlocking when i turn the ignition doesn't bother me at all because the door lock buttons inside work properly and my remote works properly.

Yeah the dealers talk out of the back of their ass, so therefore you DO have a stock alarm, but just the fact it doesn't beep is what confuses them (I have a 99 SLE too and it never beeps), but there ARE sensors in the hood, trunk and doors. Now if that isn't an alarm, I don't know what is anymore.
