You have to remember the Gen 2 came with a bigger wheel diameter then he gen 1 and 1.5 Solars..
The gen 1 with 17" wheels should use 225/45/17 to be closest to stock diameter.
The rim size on the Gen 2 changed diameter from 15-16" to 16-17", however the overall tire diameter for the Camry has remained the same since the mid '90s (possibly earlier), as has the Solara tire diameter since introduction. That is what I am referring to (the rim size itself doesn't matter).
The Gen 1 Solara came with 215/60R16, which is pretty much the exact equivilent to 215/55R17... Or if you got the 15" rims it came with 205/65R15...
the size of 225/45R17 you refer to would be 2% fast over the 205/55R15, and 4.5% fast over the 215/60R16... The 2% is perfectly fine under most driving conditions, but the 4.5% would reflect a noticable difference in your speedo accuracy... That tire size, however, is doable if you don't care about the speedo difference (I, personally, prefer a difference of under 3%).
