bumpy over 60....

bumpy over 60....

Postby SolaraBlue » Tue Apr 18, 2006 11:08 pm

after getting my wheels, tires, and tein spring installed ive noticed that when i go 60+ mph my car gets a bit shaky or bumpy (for lack of a better description). i feel it mostly in my steering wheel, it becomes less responsive. im thinking it has something to do with the lowering springs, i thought my mechanic did an alignment for me but after checking with them today i found out they didnt, saying it didnt need it. they said they put weights or counter weights or something on my wheels to keep this from hapening (not sure how or why). so i really have no clue what this could be, if it is alignment wouldnt i notice it at all speeds, not just 60+? i also noticed when going straight my steering wheel is a little of center, turned more to the left.... could this be bacause the larger wheels?

i'd like to go faster then 60 without my hands vibrating off the steering wheel. thanks for any help.

I rather keep trust in having an alignment done NO MATTER WHAT. Drop, check it!. New Tires, check it!. New Wheel/Tires CHECKIT!. I only know my coilovers can only do so much for me when i'm over slightly bumpy highways and roads that the bouncing is lil annoying but at least i'm not near the point of bottoming out if i hit a nasty drop OUCH!.

I have a similiar problem at hwy speeds. It's like a shake or shudder, not violent but noticeable. It makes my passenger seat rattle and make noise which is annoying. The weird thing is it's not constant, it kinda rolls in and out like a cycle...weird

Hubcentric Rings...get them and the shaking will go away. I have the metal type on my wheels, no shaking at all anymore. search on ebay or your closest custom rim shop.

I have some shaking but that is because 1 of my rims is bent.... since you just got urs i doubt that is the issue, but you never know, it wont hurt you to double check.

from what I have heard from other people about lowering your car: when your car is dropped, you must get an alignment.

Also when you take your car to a mechanic's shop, make sure you choose one that knows what they are doing. It is always a good idea to find out about their previous work on other customers' cars.

i would hope one of my wheels isnt bent, its smooth as silk under 55 or so, so i doubt thats the issue.... i'll look into hubcentric rings! ive been going to my mechanic for years and they do good work, i trust them and if something is wrong with there install theyll fix it for free....
do i have to take the wheels off to install the hubcentric ring? can i install it myself?

thanks guys!!!!!!!

hubcentric rings sit directly in the bore of your wheel. they will mount flush with the inside of your wheel and will be in direct contact with the center of your rotor. It almost looks like a small sleeve that sits inside the bore of your aftermarket wheels. that is the purpose for using them, they keep the wheel at true center on the hub and eliminate any gap between from how the oem wheels used to fit, thus eliminating the shaking sensation.

^ I think thats the correct answer.

my car is doing EXACTLY what solarablues is doing, has been ever since aftermarket wheel install. I believe they installed plastic hub rings and thats causing the issue. They balanced my wheels, gave me new tires and the issue was still there.

After the car was lowered, it was aligned and checked for camber issues....still, same wabble wabble 60+mph on the steering wheel. so gay...so gay...

so anyone gotta quick linke to 'better' hub rings for a '00

i just bought a set from dscount tires. theyre metal so from what i hear theyre stronger than the other ones. ive also seen them on ebay http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dl ... category0=. hope this works. if not it could be that the tires need to be re mounted/balance. make sure you buy the metal ones.

if you did buy the package from discount, then they will send you hubcentric rings for no charge...I bought mine off of ebay from them, called them 3 months later, and they sent me a metal set for free! I would recommend the metal ones as I have had no problems.
