Ok..ill start of by sayin im pretty ignorant on about..well everything that has to do with cars. I know what I like though, and hey atleast im here tryin to learn. What I like is those headlights that have the blueish color to them, I had previously thought that those were just regular halogen lights, but discovered that I was wrong when I got my car. I heard that those "blue" lights can melt the wiring to your headlights..how would I solve that problem? Are these lights illegal (I live just outside of chicago)? HID? I talked to a car guy and he said it was something like 900 bucks to get that installed and is that just a bright white light? I dont care about bright and being able to see anymore than i do and all that junk..its pretty lit up here in chi. Im wondering If i can just go buy a bulb and switch it over and have that blueish hue without screwing things up..and which brands would be the best. Sorry for the long post..im strugglin to say what i want here.

Alright basically heres the deal with those lights. Halogens have a yellowish tint and can be bought at any auto parts store, hardware store, or places like Walmart. When you get into the blueish or whiteish bulbs you have two choices. The real H.I.D bulbs require a whole system. New wires, a balast, and new bulbs and they'll cost atleast $350. They do provide the most amount of light output and really increase your visibility at night.

Then you have your xenon or krypton gas filled bulbs which imitate the color of the true H.I.D lights. The best choice for these are the Silverstars. They are street legal and made to OEM specs. The should cost you around $40 for the two bulbs. Some higher wattage bulbs could smoke you wiring harness, but if you stick with the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs you'll be fine.
