Who is using or has used LED's

Secially on the exterior including corners, license plate , brake etc

if you have did you have any issues with short circuiting or any other electrical issues since the LED's use up less current?

I had LED corners in my previous car n i had electrical probs. so just wondering.

I saw on Ebay that with LED bulbsd you can also buy a load resistor which will help to make the blnking or corners at normal speed instead of hyper blinking.

any comments?

I have the Corners, rear turn and Tail lights all using LED's. The turn signals will have hyper flashig but it can be resolved by getting an electronic flasher that is not load dependent. I would stay away from the resitor method as they get very hot as they are taking the place of the filiment.

I've also done my gauges and climate control with LED's. You have to be careful with voltage when you use LED's or they will pop on you.
Heres a few pics.

Sap Z - I've got LEDs over the license plate. Depending on where you get the LEDs (or if you make them on your own), most decent ones will have a resistor wired up with them that will decrease the voltage from 12v to something the LED can use (for many, around 3.3v). I'm not certain whether or not that resistor would convince the fuses that everything is okay, but I've yet to have a blown fuse. I've got LEDs in the gauge cluster right now, but as soon as my Super Whites come in (Xenon gas bulbs), those will come out - I could never get the light to look even enough, and I tried everything shy of wiring up 50 of the surface mount LEDs to the back of the cluster (which would be awesome, if I had that kind of patience and soldering experience!).

Vegas - lookin' good... but HOW THE HELL did you get to the HVAC controls? I've been trying for about a week now to figure out how to get around that [censored] green tube cable... thing. I've got a few ideas for the HVAC controls, with white LEDs lighting everything but the cold/hot knob (red and blue, respectively), but damned if I can't get to it.

LED Voltage

Postby Sentinel » Mon Apr 24, 2006 10:00 pm

If you can only get LEDs that can handle 3 volts, why dont you wire 4 LED's in series? Kirchoff sez the voltage across each (with equal resistance) will be 1/4 the total voltage. Resistance will also be 4 x. Might help with hyper-blink.

I have LED license plate bulbs to try to mimic the GS, but it's not doing a great job since it's not as white as I would prefer, nor is it as bright (but hey, it'll be worth its weight in gold as soon as I get around to the point where I can smash eggs at some of my old job places that ripped me off).

I have LED's as turn signals and as license plate lights.
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

That was Sap Z's work, not mine - however, I'd suggest a simple piece of clear plastic (like, from a soda bottle or a package) with 1) some Sharpie lovin', or 2) colored cellophane, or 3) the blood of a virgin, or 4) maybe some kind of nail polish. I think the cellophane would give the most uniform color, but the virgin blood has a certain panache to it.

Vegas, with the alternate flasher in mind, does the "bulb out" light come on?
