Which I4

If its the 5SFE (gen 1 99-01) then its right on top of the valve cover, in the middle of the engine. Easy as yanking it out and replacing it.

nothing, it just helps the engine to vent the pressure and recycle the dirt air back into the intake maniford.

The PCV valve is spring loaded to only dump the corrosive and polluting fumes back into the intake when there is pressure. If its broken, its typically stuck shut

The only thing thats immediately apparent is you may have rougher idles. Over the long term, it can lead to bad emissions, and sludge buildup, and corrosion by the fumes remaining in the engine.

You can tell if a PCV valve is broken by shaking it. If it rattles, then the valve is opening and closing and it works. No rattle = stuck = broken.

Its such a cheap part, that you can change it every 15K for the hell of it.
