Removing Chrome on grille....

needmorecrap wrote:i used 220 to get most of the stuff off, and then 800 to get it very smooth. Then go to walmart and get the Krylon Fusion paint(the stuff that paints plastic) and give it a few light coats of that, then get the Truck/SUV clearcoat rattlecan from your local autoparts store and do about 5 coats of that. It'll be shiny as hell and will last a long time. I taped off the toyota symbol since it was still nice and bright, and i think it looks good.

Well I just finished painting the grille. I did it as you said except I decided to do it all black and not keep the chrome eblem. It looks great, thanks again for the help.

no prob....i just figured the chrome emblem on an all black front would look good, but to each his own, and hey you didn't have to spend $50 on a cheap ass ebay grill.

I just got it on the car tonight and it was too dark for pics. I will try and get some this weekend.

Sorry for the delay; Here are some pics of the final product. The 2 things you see in the grille are laser jammers so disregard those, but I think it came out awesome.

Here's after I painted it

Nice job... How much are the laser jammers and how well do they work? The screwed thing about living in Pomona is that there's a shitload of speedtraps!

The laser jammers ran me $750 installed. And I also bought a V1 radar/laser detector that ran me $400 I haven't been hit with laser yet so couldn't tell you how they work. The V1 works awesome though for picking up radar etc.
