Crank Pulleys

Crank Pulleys

Postby Solorange » Tue May 02, 2006 8:19 pm

I was reading through my March Issue of Modified mag (I know two months late) and I was looking at the tech article where they added a lightwieght Crank Pulley. I ran a quick search to see if they make them for solaras, but came up empty. Just a bunch of posts on supercharger pulleys. Anyway Modified mag claims that it will add about 10hp due to less rotating mass. This looks like a cheap easy mod I can throw in under an hour and if their claim is right, then its good for a cheap good power increase too. So does any companies make one for our cars?

Crank Pulley is not the same as the Flywheel. The Fidanza is for the 5 speed.

URD has the closest thing to what you are looking for. Check out their website www.urdusa.com

^Yeah, I'd contact URD, they had them. I don't see it listed on their site anymore, but I've got one.

I wonder why. Maybe low demand, or they probably made one batch and just decided to sell one batch. It looks like a complicated piece to make.

I have one on my Solara and it is a nice piece, works just fine. It looks nice, and I believe it is working better than stock in terms of performance. But, it is kinda hard to tell an increase in horsepower of 10 or below. Every extra hp helps.

The crank Pulley? It's just a lighter pulley for your crankshaft. It seems like it wouldn't make much difference, but it frees up some power because its lighter mass has less inertia and is allowed to spin faster, basicly putting more power at your feet sooner. However there are several arguments that it is not good to use a lightweight pulley because it throws off the entire rotating assembly balance and can warp your harmonic balancer over time.

But it's a relatively easy mod for 5-15 hp usually, relative to your other mods.
