Big Rig Horns

Big Rig Horns

Postby FLASH » Thu May 11, 2006 8:46 pm

I haven't done anything lately to my car and without a good flow of cash, I was thinking of installing something small and entertaining

Has anyone installed a big rig horn? I saw electric ones (no air compressor) for like 20 bucks and was gonna hook it up as an accessory, not to replace my stock horn

Anyone with experience witht these? Or any thoughts?

The $20 electric "big rig" horns sound really funky to me... They sound more like an older Jeep horn than a "big rig"... There are also dual trumpet horns in the same price range that actually come with a little compressor of their own, along with plastic tubing and a relay. They sound alright but are a bit too high pitched for my liking (they sound a bit like a homosexual train horn)... I had a pair in my Celica and burnt them out, then replaced them and burnt that set out as well (the compressor just buzzed and vibrated)... So I determined that they aren't very well made and gave up on them... not to mention, if they get any water in them what-so-ever they just squeel a bit like a half dead pig giving birth...

I replaced them with a dual trumpet marine horn with a small, 80psi compressor and it kicked ASS!! Save up and get a better quality horn dude... You'll regret the purchase otherwise.

^^ What he said! Seriously - if you want a big rig sound, the only way is real horns, a compressor and at least a 2-3 gal air tank!

Forget the big rig horns, you should mount train horns!
