My clutch went out.

My clutch went out.

Postby Wang2k » Fri May 12, 2006 2:48 pm

My clutch went out(at least i really hope thats what it is) the car acts like it wants to pull, put it in gear and let off the clutch, it starts to go forward but then acts like its in neutral. like the clutch is slipping infinitely...same thing in reverse, car barely moves back then some slips...

I ordered a spec stage 4 6 puck...no more act for me....ever...

I wonder how this clutch is gonna feel...anyone?

You have no need for a stage 4...stage 3 would be the most you would need in a solara.

Getting a stage 4 would make it nearly unbearable to drive off of the track.

I have a spec stage 2+ and it can handle 455 ft*lbs and that is way more than we will need. However, the kevlar chatter drives me crazy in traffic.

I think you would be most comfortable with a stage 2, 2+, or 3.

Im getting the stage 4 because i dont care about streetability i just want the stongest clutch i can afford...im getting the 4, and i already know its gonna be super catchy, i mean it doesnt even have torsional damper springs, just a solid hub...thats gotta be more harsh....im gonna like the stage 4 because i drive like im in a race car...and i race it....im real hard on a clutch

as far a miles the car has like 110k the clutch had about 35000 on it...it didnt slip at all just went out...like the throwout bearing might not be working right...i wont know till i get in there.

Ill do a DIY clutch tutorial :)

hey man, not sure if you already bought it but you should look into SouthBend clutch (http://www.southbendclutch.com/) I recently got thier OFE Stage 4 series for $320 shipped and man i love it! You can probably get a stage 3 or so for cheaper. I would advise you to check out their website and call them directly to get a deal.

Stage 4 is beyond overkill.

Most people on this forum don't need to go beyond a stage 1 from any manufacturer.

Once you get into Kevlar chatter, usually starting with stage 2's, then the clutch becomes a nuisance, at least for me it did.

I just got my old clutch out ...the disc was shattered, and the pressure plate mangled...lol no need for a stage 4 huh??? this is an ACT 6 puck we are talking about here it eXPLODED. I got my first peice out through the starter hole lol.... the new clutch looks fantastic and you gotta love break in instructions that say "before full throttle/redline engagement, drive for 450 miles"(summary)... lol im definately getting slicks! then we will see how strong my tranny is. ive been replacing axles right and left so hopefully they will work like a fuse in my driveline. Lifetime warranty lol!

anyway....i dropped my cradle and got the tranny out without a lift....im like the david blaine of mechanics...i won a 50 dollar bet that said i couldnt get the tranny out without a lift...(although i did use 2 jacks and a cherry picker...and the car is on blocks...lol

I really need a tune...thats coming, but with these setbacks of course it will be a while...the money i spent on my clutch i had set back for the split second and walbro. so im probably running really lean...i blew my rear knock sensor about 2 days before the clutch went out, and i wired both to the front one...it really woke my car up, it was losing traction in the top of second gear a little. as a matter of fact...when my clutch went out i had just done a full throttle first and second gear pull...and i remember the car tried to jump away from me! then i took a right and then a left and the clutch just died...a slight clicking noise when it went out made me think it was the axle...

DIY is underway!!!!!pics, tips goofy stuff, and stage 4 clutch demonstration! i have a race set up as well...it will show the power of my car until i can get it dynoed...93 5.0 stang, i raced him with my 4 lb pulley(which only showed about 2.75lbs on the gauge and truly measured 3.4 inches) and just walked on the guy, even after him talking all kinds of stuff. Now he has been talking crap again, saying i was spraying and that i couldnt mess with his car now(my cousin told me this) so ill get a vid of this time...he knows nothing about the 7 lb pulley and fresh clutch hes about to get rammed up his ass he is full bolt on with a e30 cam(i think thats right) he didnt do the work tho...he came and looked at my car and all he could say was "i see ya got one of those K and G air filters" (and this mfer really said k&G in front of about 9 people that knew better, and noone corrected him LOL anyway back to work...

Yeah I know what you mean about some of those die hard muscle car people. They think they can only get beat by another bigger better same car. You should get a video of the next race just so you can rub it in to him and show his friends. I dont know if you have nitrous or not but you should disconnect it and show him before you race him its disconnected. Looking foward to the tutorial!
