that's odd...

did you buy it new or used?... if it was used they may have been deployed before and just restuffed and not changed

If I were you I'd be VERY careful...if they didn't deploy and the circumstances of the accident were such that they should have they could go off at any time. Could be dangerous...I'd take it to someone right away and have it looked at if I were you.

Peter your answer seems logical. I've seen cars after the airbags deploy and the steering wheel snaps in half. Check out these pics of a destroyed solara. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... gory=33656

I know there are certain circumstances for an airbag to deploy, but from your description it should have went off. Thats very alarming

maybe the sensors didnt want to deploy the airbags? Thats what happened in my moms bmw, she tottalled the front end and the bags didnt deploy. Id go check it out w/ some 1 that knows alot about the airbag sensors. You might be able to sue if they should have deployed.

I think that the 2002 2003 and so many others solara have a design problem on the steering-wheel that we may not know about.
example : that front steering-wheel says ABS and as a picture of the horn---well that thing can probably knock out your head if they fire, I bet they have a problem with that----I wish we had a survey of the statistics
of how and when this thing might not be working. this is serious because thing like that can kill you-----did you ever look at that thing---its hard ---In what direction will it go when it activates on impact----too your face? :agrue:

actually, that large part of the steering wheel that you're referring to splits in half right in the middle and the airbag shoots out from there. and in my experience there haven't been any recurring problems with solara airbags. toyota would have found them and fixed the problem by now.

well considering that toyota is the only car manufacturer that has never had a recall, i'd say they would have found the problem. toyota has only had 'service campaigns' which are different from recalls since recalls are government mandated. toyota has always recognized the problem before it got to that point and has taken care of the problem.
