First Accident Ever...

First Accident Ever...

Postby ArizonaEagle07 » Thu Jun 01, 2006 9:35 pm

So im on my way to my parents house from MD to PA. Im on I-70 & a mile away from 695 juntion (Baltimore Beltway) the lane that im in... the cars in front of me are at a stop so I slow down to 50 mph (speed limit is 65) I than look in my rear view mirrior & see a Black BMW 5 Series flying up behind me & I know he's going to rear end me and he does at 70 mph.

He hits me SO HARD that the change and cigg canister both opened up and I found coins resting on top of my rear speakers. Also my two bottom license plate bolts were embedded in the BMW's front bummper.

The weird thig is, I hardly had any rear end damage infact if you looked at it, youd think Id back into a high curb at 15 mph... but I had transmission fluid everywhere! I dont know what that means thou...

Im suffering from lower back pains and some neck pains... other than that we got out with no major injuries. I may have pics later... till than just wanted to share the news.

WOW! I am VERY sorry to hear about that... Some people really shouldn't be on the road...

I hope you are ok, back and neck problems may seem minor at first, but can easily become something more serious if you don't take care of them... Make sure you have them checked out...

As far as your car looking like it doesn't have much damage... From what you stated, I'm guessing the damage is far more than skin deep... When you see your car again, look down the sides for ripples in the paint (or any other oddities in the surface)... I'm guessing you have some pretty severe damages hiding up in there.

Are you sure the tranny fluid wasn't his? If he hit you hard enough from behind to spill your tranny fluid, I'd count on your car being totalled...

Please keep us updated, and make sure to get yourself checked out asap... The car can be fixed or replaced, but you cannot.

Best of wishes, and good luck with everything.

sorry to hear the accident.
When you get rear ended, you can have far more damage than it looks.
I got my first car (Echo) rear ended, and it was totaled... :x

The whip rush sucks, but it could be much more worse with an accident on highway.
Take care, and hope everything will go okay.

Wow, sorry to hear that. :( Glad you are fairly ok, but as others had stated, GET IT CHECKED OUT! Please.

As for the car, it's most likely a lot worse then you think. My friend got read ended a few weeks ago in his supra at 40mph, totaled. Does not look too bad, but if you look close the whole rear end got pushed down, and sever underbody damage:

Keep us posted, and hope all goes well. :)

^^ LOL

Now back to topic, sorry to hear about your accidents. I too was rear ended a few months back and to my surprise the Lara had only a few scratches, that was ALL. I must say Toyota did a hell of a job on these cars in the back end because this lady hit me hard too and ONLY got very little tiny scratches, however you my friend need to go get checked out ASAP.

Thanks guys for your comments & everything. I should be hearing from the insurance company today to see what the deal is.

I will be getting my back/neck injuries checked out today or tomorrow morning.

I really hope my car isnt totaled... but all in all cars can replaced, humans cant.

I'll keep you updated ASAP hopefully with pics too.
take care. Matt

Wow man sorry to hear about that.
Some people shouldn't be allowed a license.....
But from you sayin' tranny fluid was from your car, he probably hit you so hard when you had your brakes on, probably ripped a hole in the tranny...... But i could be wrong.
Good luck and get your self checked by a doc to make sure everythin' is ok.

Im glad your ok, I cant imagine the pain your going through getting rear ended at 70mph. I got rear ended a long time ago and the car that hit me was only going 5mph and I had back aches for the next day.

UPDATE

Postby ArizonaEagle07 » Sat Jul 08, 2006 7:04 pm

Hey, I havent been on SolaraGuy for awhile but just wanted to post an update on me and my car.

Car: After being rear-ended at 70mph the car suffered minor damage they replaced the Rear Bumper, Muffler, and I have a new trunk Lid & Paint Job.
BUT!!!!

When I picked up the car from the Bodyshop I drove it for no longer than 15 min and had steam pouring out of the engine compartment. I made it into my apartment complex and turned off the car I couldnt pin-point the damage. I tried to start the car and it wouldnt even start.

Its back at the Toyota Service center they said something about a water-neck device that holds water busted, also that some gaskets are blown and to repair it will be $900.00 they also said they dont know if that will solve the whole problem until the preassurize it to see if theres anymore problems.

Does anyone know what the heck there working on? lol

Me: I am alright I suppose... I have torn soft tissue in my lower back, and im in physical therapy. Nice part is that I have a lawyer and Ill get a nice settlement in a few months.

Future: I have no clue what to do, I think if this car works just like I bought it and I have no more maitnence problems than Ill just quickly pay off the loan and use it as a trade-in for a new car. To be honest id love to keep this car, but I just have to get rid of asap

thanks again
matt
