Amp and install ?

Postby black99 » Wed Jun 07, 2006 11:16 am

Whatsup guys and gals. I have 2 12" JL Audio W3V2's, D-4 with a normal sealed box, 1.25 cu ft. These subs are 300 watts RMS per sub and I was going to run them at like 6 or 700 watts. I was wondering if anyone has a good amp they suggest for this type of setup. I was looking at a Power Acoustics amp. This one: http://www.cardomain.com/item/POWA1800DB

That amp is fairly cheap and it runs 600 watts x 1 @4 ohms. Is this a good amp? Also what is the best way to install all of this? Im thinking I will need a 2 gauge wire running to the battery but Im not exactly sure what to do. Im trying to save money by doing all of the install myself.

Also I have an Alpine CDA- 9857 headunit if that helps anyone.

The JL 500/1 is rated at 500W, but it will EASILY push as much, if not more than that Power Acoustics amp... It's a far superior amp, and it will last a whole lot longer. If you don't want to spend quite as much, the Alpine MRD-M605 is rated at 600Wx1 and is a pretty solid amp. The MTX Thunder TA5601 is also a pretty solid amp... There are others out there as well (PPI for example) that will please you a lot more than the Power Acoustics and not cost an arm and a leg...

Do you also plan to run a 4 channel amp on your mids and highs? If you plan on just getting the sub amp, or only getting a moderately powered 4 channel (with no plans of substantial upgrading in the future) 4 gauge from your battery should be plenty for you (split off under your seat to 8 gauge to feed a second amp or a capacitor).

Your headunit is a solid source, so you should be good with that.
