AC Compressor go stiff?

AC Compressor go stiff?

Postby DatSRBoi » Tue Jun 06, 2006 10:40 pm

I was wondering if as an air compressor can get stiffen as it is used over years? I notice my idle drops allot when I turn the AC on and my belt seems to vibrate trying to gain traction on all pulleys. But when the AC is off the car runs just fine. Im going to try get a vid of how bad the pulley vibrates. It looks scary.

Well, the A/C puts a little extra strain on the engine. I would think that as a car gets older, it might be more visible than when it was new.

Come on dat - you've been here long enough to know that we don't bump up threads after 6 hours.

Even when my car when new, the idle got rougher when the AC kicks on

The compressor draws a lot of current as well, so the alternator will probably kick in as well.. its regular

A/C Compressors

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Thu Jun 08, 2006 12:00 pm

A/C compressors do go bad. They have bearings inside that wear out over time. If the drag is high it will strain the engine idle, and eventually break the drive belt.
