Leather dye

Leather dye

Postby SirMacDaddy » Thu Jun 15, 2006 7:10 pm

Im in the market for a new steering wheel, and i was wondering has anyone dyed their steering wheel or anything else that is leather (seats or what not). I wanted to know how hard it was and what the result looked like and if it really was worth the time that was put in. I was thinking about buying a steering wheel but its a different color...so can anyone answer this for me?

Much appreciation

I know on hot rod TV one time they dyed a pea green chevelle interior black and it looked nice. But thats vinyl. I am interested to know also if it works ok on leather because i would like to dye my seats and dash black while the windshield is out.

Are you talking about one of those cheapy repair kits that you find at AutoZone? Those are a scam. I don't know about leather dyes though.

I've tried leather dye (google Leatherique). I have been satisfied with their product. It takes a lot of patience and masking. I know i may be loosing you sale by saying this....cheaper alternative to purchasing my wheel would be to use a leather dye from them (provided your leather is still intact just dirty). Snap a little leather from under your seats and give them a sample for them to use to make a dye to your leather and use that. Good luck...hey, if your choose not to dye em' remember me! :)

If it is just the steering wheel, why just not re-wrap it.

I have thought about re-wrapping the steering wheel, but the only thing i found was a company called wheelskins and when you buy it it doesnt come for the whole wheel. If you see pictures of cars taht have it, the wheel is covered, but the prongs where its connected to the horn/airbag part does not get covered and it looks a little wierd in my opinion.
Its not out of the question, but i would rather it not look like that

I hear what you are saying, also the other solution is getting a steering wheel from a corolla or Celica.
