I assume brake fluid level is good. Have you had the lines open at some point? Have you tried bleeding the air out of the brakes? How's the brake pedal feel? (Soft for the first 90% of the pedal travel?)

no that's the thing, the brakes are great.....no sloppiness at all! even when you just rest your foot on the pedal, it makes the noise!

Sounds like your brake booster is going bad.. This happened in my old Integra...

Get it replaced or looked at... Mine just went out one day and has no brakes. I ended up using my E-brake to slow the car down and towed it home.

The hissing sound is a leak somewhere. Either something is not bolted tight or the booster is going bad. I would just check it checked out to be sure if that is even the problem.

If you have the tools and are mechanically inclined im sure you can do the job yourself.

Yes, that is the brake booster, the big black thing behind the brake fluid reservoir. Most modern car use vacuum assisted brake. You might have a leak somewhere. Check the vacuum line that goes to the booster also.

Are you sure there aren't any civics around when you're breaking? I heard this sucking sound when I was leaving target yesterday... got in my car and looked in the parking spot next to me, and sure enough there it was. It's not enough for those damn cars to suck physically anymore, audible sucking is the new thing, look for it to grace the cover of import tuner and modified magazine alike coming soon!
