if you look in your owner's manual there's a page that has the sensor zones highlighted. it really depends on the impact, angle, if the object you hit was moving or not.. etc.

I had the same problem

I got into a crazy accident and hit a car 40 mph and the airbags did not deploy. I thought this was a flaw, but got no answers from Toyota. If anyone hears anything please keep us posted.

from the injuries i've seen people sustain due to airbags, you may have been better off with just the seatbelts! i know airbags save lives, but i've seen a lot of nasty injuries due to them.
