Possible GB for custom retrofit projectors - *any model*

Possible GB for custom retrofit projectors - *any model*

Postby Astro » Mon Jul 10, 2006 11:38 am

*This applies to all gens. of Camry and Solara owners*

I just talked to Bjorn, one of the owners of Custom Lightz, this is what he offered. Remember, for those who aren't sure - you supply the lights. I'm setting this up for 30 days, after that you're on your own. I hope I included enough info, check the site for more or email Bjorn at retrofit@customlightz.com

This is what he is offering:
4+=free color mod ($30 value)
8+=free color mod, $50 off labor
12+free color mod, $100 off labor

Labor:
For the gen1 and 1.5 headlights, they fall into the $250 rate.
From their site:
The labor fee covers installation/alignment of projectors, installation of shrouds and trim, and optional custom paint job.
And NOW!!! Upgraded sealant is part of the labor fee; a $30 value.

Painting the headlight or selected areas of the headlight is free, we currently carry a selected number of high temperature paint, and they are silver, aluminum, gun metal, flat black, low gloss black and high gloss black. Thus, if you want the housing to be painted midnight blue or any other color to match the color scheme of your car, you need to provide us with the paint, or we can get it for an additional charge.

The labor fee varies depending on the headlights we are working on.
The price is based on factors such as complexity of the headlight, material it's made out of i.e. metal and glass, and in case of an unpredictable event; some headlights cost more to replace.

Custom Shrouds:
If you want custom shrouds, they have a few to choose from, check out their site. They go for $75, painting is included.

Custom Chrome 2.25" Smooth Trim Rings:
This is optional, but I had to buy these from HID planet and had them sent to Bjorn.
Check them here: http://www.hidplanet.com/bezels.html

Custom Wire Harness:
He can make a plug and play wire harness for $40 or you make your own.

Projectors:
If you want '05 TSX projectors, they usually have those in stock. They will sometimes have S2000 projectors, but you must contact Bjorn about that. If you want to do the color mod, it's known that the TSX puts out the best colors.
If you want to retrofit different projectors, he says he can install them. I'd say just talk with him before hand, so there's no problems. Contact Bjorn about Bi-xenon, I didn't ask him about that.

*Add'l note from their site:
Q: Do you sell HID components i.e. projectors, ballast, bulbs, etc.
A: We have lots of TSX projectors, and on occasion we get hold of S2000 projectors, ballast and bulbs. When we have access to them, a pair of symmetrical TSX projectors with mint condition 4300K Philips or Osram bulbs, and a pair of ballasts with external starters/igniters cost $450. For an additional $30, you can upgrade to either brand new bulbs, or receive a pair of ballasts with built-in/internal starters/igniters. Or for $50, thus; a total of $500, you will receive a pair of symmetrical TSX projectors with new 4300K Philips or Osram bulbs, [which ever we have available] and a pair of ballasts with internal starters/igniters. If we have S2000 projectors in shop, then it's an additional $180.

Attn: Solara gen 1.5 owners:
If you want to do a dual setup like I have, you must find a halogen projector. Unless, you want to do a dual H.I.D. setup which they can make it functional, it just costs much more because you must purchase another ballast, bulbs, etc. I was lucky, Bjorn found me the H1 halogen projectors, but I don't think he'll be able to do it for everyone. You'll have to work it out with him.

--------

So, for the best pair of TSX projectors, ballasts, and bulbs, you will probably be looking at $500. Add in the labor cost before discount, $250, and the charge for a custom shroud, $75, plug and play wire harness, $40, you will look around $865. Return shipping for me was $25. He uses DHL ground, so if you're in the US, this will be the same.

I hope you guys really want to do this, I know it's a pricey mod, but it's definately worth it! This beats any bulb or rebased kit you can buy, go for the real thing.

I'll let you guys in on my final receipt, so you know I still highly recommend this even with the total.

My receipt:

Paypal adds 3%

HID Parts: 500 + 3% = 515
TSX projectors, Matsushita gen 2 ballasts and NEW 4300K Osram D2S bulbs.

Labor/service etc.
Lowbeam retrofit = 250
highbeam retrofit = 100
paint, upgraded sealant = free
plug and play wire harness = 40
partial priority service = 60
return shipping = 25
2 pairs of custom shrouds = 150
color mod = 30

Total 655 + 3% = 674.65

Grand Total = $1189.65

Please let him know I sent you :D

Thanks,
Larry

$250 + projector price lol

Just note that he can't make these with a rebased kit, I got one from Mark and they aren't any good....you have to be able to use DS2 bulbs. Labor ($250 pending discount) + projector ($210).

This is a great price, I'd like to see a lower price elsewhere with QUALITY work. This totally blows away Mark's rebased kits in projector housings..LOL!

well it seems like they have a lot of options... Wouldn't want to order and have charges appear that I didn't understand before ordering

The easiest thing to do it email Bjorn and explain to him what you want done. Also tell him what you have.

Yeah i know.
I was talkin' to a private retroer, and he quoted me $400 for both headlights wit any type of projectors.
If i got him the parts though.
And he was goin' to throw in 1 year warranty, and re-align if needed, and tech support.
I thought to myself; wow this guy really stands behind his work, and i've seen it too, and he's really good.

Bjorn is the same way. Besides doing very clean work, his priority is customer service. They've (Bjorn and Richard) been around as Custom Lightz for over 3 years now and have been growing through word of mouth. Their website has only been up for about 6-7 months, but it still isn't their main source of advertising. This summer they've finally started making it out to car shows and events to show off their work. They were the first to do the triple projector setup, which was Bjorn's Accord. Plus, you'll notice their are probably the only company to show pictures of the back of their retro's....

Not yet, unfortunately I turned the adjustment screw too much  So, I sent it back so Bjorn could fix it for me...plus I'm having him paint the reflector area from gunmetal to black. Man, it did look good before it broke.
