I am almost finished!! But I have a wiring problem... Maybe one of you can help me out!!!

On the right side, there are three wires to the headlight. red/blue, red/black, and red/white.

On the left side, there are four wires. red/black, red/black, red, red/white...

I hooked red/white on + side of my ballast and red/black on - side.

The problem is that only my left side(driver side) comes on. I checked my right side ballast and bulb with my left side wires and they work fine....

My question is what is that red/blue wire on right side?

I will post some pics once I finish them...

Alright folks...

My digital camera sucks really bad... I can't seem to capture the night pics... I have a manual shutter camera, and I will take some more pics with that soon... But here are some progress pics.

Image

Ballasts and bulbs from Lexus IS300. I got these from ebay for $157.

Image

Left bulb is the H4 factory bulb and the right bulb is Xenon D2R bulb
Obviously some modification was necessary to fit D2R bulb to the headlight housing...

Image

I used Dremel to cut off the retaining plate from the factory H4 bulbs.

Image

Here is the picture of D2R bulb with the retaining plate on.

Image

This picture doesn't do the justice... The lights are white/blue, not purple.
I will take some better pictures soon.

Go to http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/headlight-menu1.htm to read about some FAQ before you do this HID conversion...

H4 bulbs only use the upper portion of the headlight reflector for the lower beam, so you must fabricate some shield so that the HID lights can't reach the bottom portion of the headlight reflector.(I made one out of beer can!! Pics coming soon) It will only create stray lights, which are aimed upward and it will annoy on coming drivers...

Yeah... I figured out the wiring dilemma.. I read up on the Haynes manual!! Actually I figured out their electrical diagrams....Pain in the A$$.

One more thing.. Because HID requires 15 Amps to start up the bulbs, it needs separate wirings. If I keep use the factory headlight wirings, I am going to fry them soon or later... So, I am going to make my own with thicker wires and relays... Go to that website I posted earlier, they have "how to" diagrams! Easiest way would be buying expensive already packaged HID kit.. They come with everything you need. But they are pricy....$400..

I put my labor in but I only spent $160... :)

Wiring harness

Perhaps getting the wiring harness from suvlights.com would help you with you frying your current wires.

sites online

Postby SKYravefever » Mon Aug 12, 2002 6:35 pm

Shouldn't be dreadfully difficult since you're up for the challenge. :D There are plenty of sites that show you how to make it, as you may have already known. I posted a question for you on TN.
