Engine Light Question

Engine Light Question

Postby Moose2500 » Wed Jul 12, 2006 8:05 am

Hey guys,

On my 99 SLE V6, after i got the car, the engine light came on and of course after that the trac light also came on, i've taken it to get scanned many of times. They have replaced a part near the muffler and one it was because a vaccum hose had come off, thing is the light is still on and when they scan the car it says there is no problem. I can take out the EFI fuse for 30 seconds and it resets the light but comes on after about 20 minutes of driving. Any thoughts on what the problem could be based on what i've told you, or need any more info?

Thank you,

Carl

If the light goes on there are no codes to read it could be anything.. BTW - disconnectng your battery for a few minutes should reset the CEL. When the OBII throws a fault, the CEL will light again. I'd take it to autozone just for sh**ts and giggles, let them hook it up to a scan tool and tell you if any codes come out.

I took it to a toyota dealer to get it scanned and they told me there are no faults and reset the light. Before I get home the darn thing is on again! Can anyone think of anything that might trip the light if is says no faults when you scan it?

do you notice anyting wrong with your car, like decreased performance, anything like that? Regardless of what toyota says you should still take it to someone else that has a scan tool to confirm Toyota.
Autozone charges 0.0. for the test. A reputable mechanic with a conceince wouldn't charge more than 20.00 if that just to hook the thing up. yeah I know toyota would though..

Id take it to autozone so you can see for yourself what the code could be. Maybe it is something minor and the dealership your taking it too is just trying to save you money or something.
