Question on Wiring in Driver Side Electrical Kick Panel

Postby Grant516 » Sat Jul 08, 2006 8:52 am

Is there a wire that is negative and grounded only when the car is one / or keys are in accessory mode?

I'm putting in another auxilliary outlet and for the life of my can't find a readable wiring diagram for the car.

This is for an 02 Solara.

i don't think there is such a wire...if anything it would be located next to the ignition column.

any wires in the ignition column though usually show 12v when the ignition is either: turned on, engine is being started, turned to the ACC position, or they are simply heavy gauge constant 12v. wires.

I think I got it grant. Since you know of wires that are hot when the car is on/acc...you'll need an SPST relay (radioshack)

Wire 86 to the car's "hot-when-on" wire. 30 and 85 to ground. 87 to your accessory's ground.

(when voltage is applied to 86, it will energize the magnet in the relay and close the circuit between your accessory and ground)
