Auto-on Headlights

Auto-on Headlights

Postby Guest » Mon Mar 17, 2003 8:16 am

I'm currently driving a 00 Celica GT-S, and they have the auto-on headlights too. I don't particularly like the option, and there is a wire that was able to be cut to disable it on the Celica.

I'm about to trade for a 99-00 Solara SLE V6, and was wondering if there is a similar fix to disable the auto-on lights on the Solara? Thanks!

If you mean the daytime running lights, yes. I own a 02 and we have the switch, but if you use the "SEARCH" function, you will find the post on how to disable the daytime lights (or daytime sensor) on the 99-01.

Na, i don't think he was talking about DRLs. On my 01 solara the lights automatically come on when it gets dark. The way you disable them is to disconnect the sensor. Ours is located in the top right hand corner of the dashboard. You pop the sensor up and there is a little connector with 3 wires which just pops up.

If anyone has the haynes manual, can you tell me which of those three wires is the power wire. I want to put a switch on my sensor so i can manually shut the lights off.

The light switch override was added for 02.

Use a voltmeter.

That's what I was talking about, thanks. I saw the DRL disable when I searched, just wondering about the auto-on. I hope to pick up my 99 SLE V6 tomorrow! :D

I was considering using a digital multi meter but its going to be very hard to get a reading from the wires. You are working underneath the dash, so i need to lay upside down. Its high up in the dash and there is on a few inches to work with. I can't get access to the plug to get a reading so i'd need to splice into the wire. Plus, i've found it very difficult to get them to turn on when its light out, i'm sure i could just cover the sensor but its still a pain

Actually, I was thinking about pulling the plug upward instead of working underneath the dash :D

Tried to, there wasn't enough cord at all. I had my whole glovebox out and i was trying to work on it and there were only a few inches to work with after rerouting the wires. But the way it normally runs, there was not enough space
