I was debating on that too... I thought there's no possible way they'd make a connector that wouldn't fit, so it must be larger to surround everything...
It's a moot point anyway (at least for me)... since Amazon was out of stock of the connector, I went to the local Kragen's and picked up the connector with the pins exposed...
part number is 48205, which at Amazon, looks like:

Which is a bit different from the item I got... you only need the thing on the right and the one I got does have the pins exposed...
