CP-E Intake Problems...

Postby Courtster » Wed Aug 23, 2006 7:06 am

Ok, I've sent an email to CP-E about this and I'll keep you posted. Anyone else had this problem? Let me know, thanks!

I bought and installed the intake system on my 2000 V6 Toyota Solara a week and a half ago. It seems to work ok most of the time, no CELs at any time. But I have had at least four separate incidents.

Twice last week when slowing down and stopping for a red light, the engine would sputter as if dying and I would give it some gas at the light to keep it alive. After I let off it would sputter again. It didn’t seem to affect acceleration from the light and at the next light it was working correctly, no sputtering.

And now this week… Once last night and once this morning, while slowing down, once stopping, once rolling into traffic, the engine dyed without any sputtering or warning. I put the car in neutural and restarted it and drove off.

I've been relatively happy with the intake, besides these incidents, but I don't feel it is safe having this installed unless these problems can be resolved.

You sure you have all the hoses clamped down right, and the MAF plug securely clipped on there, and the wirin' stuff for the ECU box thingy tightely on there like is suppose to be.
You should double check your work.....

It seems to be a problem with your connections setup.

May you double check again your connection...you have to be at 1000% that you are using the good wire. It is not enough to take the first "look-like" wire because there is several wire with little difference all in a little bunch. Be sure also to use the good connector in the ECU like E4, E7 and E8. Specific wire for specific engine measurement needed to apply the good A/F mapping.

Do you Gen 1 and 1.5 guys have 3M connectors with the kit ? If so unplug the CP-e module let the 3M connector there...plus back the jumper you have made for the cutted wire...then test all your connections with a voltometer. If it is positive reconnect the CP-e module by connecting the good colored wire with the good 3M connector in the ECU.

Don't forget to unplug the battery before doing anything.

UPDATE us plz !

Really doesn't sound like the wiring imo. Since it happens at idle I'd bet the hose connections are more likely. Not sure how different the install is for Gen1 but intermittant idle issues and lose hoses go together. Wiring probs lead to CEL's.

There's only a couple wires that can make a difference since they all just listen except for the MAF. If MAF had no signal, you'd have an instant CEL. If it had the wrong sig, you'd have rough running at 3Krpm and an CEL. Niether sounds like your issue.

First time I reverted to stock I goofed up the jumper (i was the proto so I didn't have a wiring list.) That led to problems at 300rpm and a CEL.

If you double check all the hoses and clamps and don't see a problem, try bypassing the chip and reverting to stock. It would be a fluke but maybe you have another problem with bad timing and the cp-e had nothing to do with it.

i dont have a cp-e, but once when I was driving, my MAF came loose. It caused the engine to instantly turn off.

I have had similarn problems occassionally, but not often at all. The car nearly always cuts off when I hit a very big, sudden bump in the road(I am lowered so a little joltier ride), but this does not occur that frequently. I have attributed this problem to the sudden jolt jiggling the 3M connectors so that it momentarily looses contact. The car has also cut off maybe 3 times in the past 6 months while coming to a stop. However, it always starts right back up with no issues whatsoever
