so i got a couple of my bent rims repaired recently, and put brand new tires on. ive watched the guys at the shop mount and balance the wheel onto the tire, and according to the machine, they all balance out perfectly. they even did a road force test to adjust the high spots in the tire to the low spots on the wheel (im told that all wheels and tires have high and low spots no matter what).
so according to the machine, im in perfect balance. however, when driving, once i hit 70mph, the car shakes. its not coming from the steering wheel, but rather up through the body and i feel it in the seats. this makes me assume its the rear wheels and not the front.
is there anything that can be done at this point to stop the shaking? they insist that the wheels and tires are perfectly balanced. i saw them put each wheel and tire on the machine, and once the weights are added, the reading comes out to a perfect 0.00oz. however, when i view the tire spinning on the outer circumfrence, i can see it's not spinning perfectly round by a millimeter or two. the guys tell me this is normal, though. any solutions or options?

Sounds like you need an alignment. When I first got 18's for my gen1 I had the same problem. Had vibrations on the steeringwheel and body which was weird becuz the wheels were balanced. The guy at America's Tire Co. recommended an alignment and after that it went away.

If you hit something hard enough to bend rims, that can easily throw off your alignment.

Try putting on different rims. See if that does it.

Check the wheel hubs, If they are broken the wheel might not rotate perfectly straight.

i have the same prob. in my car right now.
but i had a loose linkage in the rear suspension, once that was fixed everything was ok.

the steering wheel still vibrates a lil at 70, but i think it's the bent rims. but new ones are coming.

if your steering wheel is vibrating, you need to get the tires balanced, make sure the front wheels aren't bent, and make sure nothing is loose in your suspension.

also check your tires.

if that doesn't work, take it into a shope and have someonese esle check it out.

what size tires and wheel are u running?

It's a pain, i've spent hundreds on balancing and aligning, nothing really worked. so i'm now trying new rims and tires.

...Ben
