2003 Solara Mods

I would like to see just 2003 SLE's with minimum mods. I do not wish to fully trick my car out, just gain a little more HP and Gas mileage. I will not be changing the rims or lowering it, drawbacks of living in a neighborhood with hellish speed bumps and Mississippi roads suck. I have already committed to the INJEN CAI and possibly a new exhaust, preferably magnaflow, but after searching the forums (honestly) I could not find any sound clips of magnaflow on any generation solora.

So in hopes to redeem myself a bit with a few users I am looking for some advice here please.

The only upgrade that may increase both HP and gas mileage is a K&N Dropin air filter, if your old filter is dirty, or new spark plugs if your old ones are due for a change.

Otherwise, nothing you can do will increase your gas mileage over factory. Anything else that will increase HP will decrease mileage

Ok then that is different from my truck, the CAI increased both HP and Gas Mileage.

CAI may, but I dont think anyones proven it.

In either case, I have CAI and I can tell you if it was any better or worse than before, but I still get great mileage.

If I had an extra $500 burning a hole somewhere, I'd get the CPE intake. I've heard that It'll give you 10-15 hp, no bs, no CEL.

Not sure about the Gen 1, but with my Gen 2 after putting in the CAI and TRD Exhaust (3.3 V6) I drive more like a maniac, so it's hard to tell in the city. But I actually slowed it down on my last road trip to San Luis Obisbo and discovered a 1-2 MPG increase over previous trips up north - both with top up and top down. Hwy average about 28/29 now if I'm cruising.

I'm sure if I upgrade to the CP-e intake that will actually be better (assuming here) since the air/fuel mix will be regulated more correctly.

I don't know if installing a aftermarket intake or exhaust would really help with the gas milage. I used to believe that it would but I talked to this guy at the last car meet I went to says his Corolla used to get close to 40mpg stock but after intake and exhaust, he averaged 28 mpg.
