What I would do Vinnie...would be to get the CP-e MAFci Short ram +AFC and build your own CAI extension..as I'm starting to do on my Gen 2...something like tacti...just to see the difference it would make. I was thinking I would have to put the battery in the rear trunk but as tacti I will do ;)

For winter I'll go back to short ram...I'll be the perfect system ! :)

So how well does this particular AFC work? Is it as tuneable as apexi's unit? This really does sound like a nice solution. I just want to make sure this AFC will allow adequate a/f adjustment for future reference. Seems like if you still have adequate control over things, then it should work fine with the TRD S/C right? Sorry, just not at all familiar with this product and trying to gather all the info that I can. Thanks

Yeah the tunable version is set for that...I do have the tuneable version but I didn'T have any performance parts so no need to tweak it but it is possible. By the way, '06 CP-e AFR mapping are a tuned version of the 04-05 Solara CP-e MAFci. Toyota change something in the ECU...so the mapping wasn't good. Then CP-e took the 04-05 mapping and tune it with the tools provided with the tunable version ! I went to a dyno shop here in Montreal...the AFR are just perfect and the power is exactly what they advertised...for gen 1 and gen 1.5 it is somewhere near the double of hp gains !!

Ask siennasc98...he use the TRD S/C with the CP-e MAFci intake system. He didn't change the mapping provide by CP-e and it work well...probably there is more power to take out of it...you would have to tune it yourself with a pro in a dyno shop.

Im running the injen with CAE, thank you Ceasar!

Im not sure of the HP gains, but the car is punchy as heck!, not to mention the nice revvvving sound it puts out now.

I honestly thought long and hard about this, You could get your hands on some SAMCO silicone piping 2.75 inch, or 3 inch, and run a flexible extension to where the stock box goes, only thing is you gotta fit a piece of tubing to couple the silicone hose to the air cleaner (air filter).

^ this could be an option to the CPe crowd.

I am also thinking of adjusting the air/fule ratio.... but not too sure of the true net HP gain there.

Either way man, spend your money wisely, and enjoy your ride.

It is where the power hiding itself...having a good air/fuel ratio is important to be efficient. The 2006 is a good example ('04-'05 should be the same...). The 2006 AirFuelRatio are so rich. I see it when I went to dyno shop last April. They put a sensor in my TRD exhaust pipe and it read the output. Everything goes fine until your pass the 4200 RPM it is dropping quick. from 4200 RPM AFR of 14.5 you get a continuous drop to 6200 RPM where the AFR is at 10.8 (way too rich !!) So you add air in the mixture to get a value of around 13 (I write it simple here...) and you then you get more fire power...more oxygen so bigger explosion = more power. Understand ? Now I have a smooth and perfect AFR line.

It is even more important than the CAI !! Both well install and tuned are just perfect combo !!

I'll work on my CAI extension (to improve the system at maximum. It starting to be a bit late in the year...but I will try to do it this year. My friend, engineer, told me that the air can raise of 50F degrees passing thru the radiator. Again if I took the air density rule and I ignore the altiude and the rest, just take the temp rule (http://www.hardtail.com/techtips/airdensity.html)...each 5F degrees is 1% air density change. 4% air density = 3% in power so for 20F/5F = 4% air density change = 3% of power. I acknowledge that it is starting to be an good improvement when added with the AFC. I don't know if he is accurate but he told me he is pretty sure that it is at least 10 celsius degrees diff(around 20F). I'm hurry to complete my CAI extension ! I'll have to take out the battery in the rear trunk to make some space under the hood !! :) I'll buy my rubber tubing at http://www.stylinmotors.com

The CP-e MAFci gave me 7% power increase the CAI will add a 3% power :D

I got you man, denser air= more power, because you need to create a catalyst for the fuel to disperse in, and mix with, before the spark goes off...

I guess Iridium plugs are best (already got them on...), and possibly an advanced ignition system, on my old car I had an MSD 6AL... with a Blaster SS coil... talk about grunt!

Too bad our cars run distributorless... lmao

thanx for the input man, good luck with your design.
