There's many diff ways too look at performance. Some guys think that going fast in a straight line after a roll (powerful Hondas), or going fast in corners (Miatas) is the end all of performance arguments. Then you get guys that really have fast cars that launch hard, like AWD turbo cars...these cars beat up even the fastest Hondas in the straights because fast Hondas have a hard time getting power down, and they need things like "rolling starts". And these AWD cars even take down the Miata boys. Whatever. Everyone puts a spin on it. The guys I used to work with all had big towing trucks, and they go out into the parking lot after work and hook up two trucks with chains and see who could pull harder. These guys could care less how fast there truck was, they wanted to see whose truck could haul more toys on the weekend.
I don't care about fast little cars that have been stripped of all their safety systems for the sake of going fast. These cars are noisy and unsafe, and absolutely no fun in bad traffic. My Integra could tear it up, but it seemed every other guy or redneck chick in a SUV or truck had my car in their cross hairs. I like a safe car that's comfortable...so you can verbally vomit all you want about how fast your SOHC is, but if we strap your SOHC to my V6 5 speed Solara, I'm gonna drag your butt around all day. Then we can try taking our cars and smashing them head on into each other. We'll see what car performs better then. That's my spin on things.
BTW, Mandarinsolara, I don't even closely think the Solara is a performance machine, unless you consider floating on clouds to be "performance". I'm just sticking it out with this car, and other people don't realize that a I6 or Domestic V8 or RWD really can't be realistically installed in these cars. But even then you shouldn't call someone a "retard" just because they don't understand that highly technical stuff as well as you surely do.
