took car to the dealership and they told me that it was the air flow meter. they said they cleaned it out (as i had already done so) and said the oils from the filter and dirt built up in it destroying the a/f meter. CEL came back on and i was wondering if anyone heard anything about this before? why would they make this oil for the filter to help catch dirt if it will damange the a/f meter?? debating wether to test a ne a/f meter with the intake or switch back to stock. i already modified the intake to use stock air box after the a/f meter.

I'm going to be a splitter here. It happened after the exhaust work, I don't think it has a thing to do with your intake.

1. What are the changes to the sensors in the exhaust with the work you had done?

2. How's the car running. Is the light the only problem or is the car running like crap too.

3. Is the Exh work custom or a kit made for the car?

I'll need the resident exhaust expert to help out here but I'm guessing that the flow around the sensors has been changed and they are reporting bad levels erroneously. If I'm not mistaken, the O2's are on/off (good/bad). Your error codes sound like maybe the ECU is tossing the o2 sensor malfunction code because it can't shut off the bad signal by adjusting the mixture.
As for the a/f meter, I'm assuming you mean Air Flow Meter, aka MAF. You'd have to apply way too much oil after a cleaning for it to muck up the maf. Check the inside of the pipe. For the maf to be goofed, you'd have oil caked all over the inside.

I'm somewhat confused by the terms used. You mentioned that the sensors were replaced. Can I assume you mean O2 sensors? I believe there are 4 on the Gen 1's, correct? (Assuming V6, for L4s, there should be two O2 sensors) One on each manifold converter and one on each exhaust leg coming down after the manifold converters.

In this case, you changed to headers which eliminates a front converter. The O2 sensor after where the front cats used to be will now read a rich exhaust mixture. (Because the front converters are no longer operational) So the closed loop ECU will lean the mixture. The front O2s will read lean coming from the engine and throw a code.

Call Greddy and ask about pinout procedures for the rear O2. There is a way to connect an O2 simulator that will read proper levels. Then the car will be running on the front O2s only. (Which is OK)

Please discuss this with them and post up their response.

I knew you'd be all over that. Thanks Phreak.

well the thing is that the first two sensors on the stock manifolds are a/f sensors. then i have the o2 sensors-- one before the other after the cat. i have a greddy cat back exhaust. i replaced both a/f sensors and the o2 after the cat. the car seems to be running fine but i hear miss firing in the exhaust, on the rpms and through the air filter. thats why i changed the plugs and wires to eliminate those as possibilities. when i had the engine coded i was getting cylinder malfunction miss fire in cylinders 1 and 3 i think, i know that it was 2 cylinders. other than the miss firing, CEL and some occaisional wierd noise at full throttle that sounds like a "clunk" (i dont know if this is a louder pop through the air filter because the noise is coming from the driver front side where the filter is located) i have no other problems. it never dies out or idles roughly or there than the slight miss firing.
