he said to save money.

I wish Toyota made there cars E85 compatible, atleast it gives us a choice. I'm sure they're doing some R&D on it now. Toyota seems to be focused on Hybrid technology.

^^ Not really. Nissan will be coming out with E85 products very soon. For us TX folks, it doesn't make any sence. We're soo far from the midwest!

Gasoline in the DFW area just hit below the $2.00 mark. There was a gas station that had it for $1.99 a gallon. The normal is $2.16.

E85 vehicles get less MPG than most gasoline vehicles. You wouldn't save any money.

Gas is coming down, but I don't really think it will last long. I don't think that we will see consistent prices in the low $1 range, probably more like the low $2, if that.

You can get premium here in FL now for about $2.50/gal. I have seen regular as low as $2.29.

Someone mentioned that you get lower MPG on E85. I heard that as well, so you most likely wouldn't save any money, you'd just be doing a slight service to the environment and maybe giving a little jab to the middle east. However, until E85 becomes mor widely available and usable, it won't matter much.

E85

Postby Sentinel » Sun Sep 24, 2006 11:32 am

Consumer Reports had a very interesting article on E85.
The main things that I remember are:

1: Performance is about the same, yet mileage goes down. (E85 has less energy per unit volume than gasoline)

2: E85 production is still in its infancy. there is not a lot of advantage to using it currently because of all the energy it takes to produce.
IMO: this will become better as more people use it and as more of it is made (economies of scale)

3: GM is using the "credits" they get from all their vehicles running on E85 so they can continue to sell guzzler SUVs.
The net effect is MORE carbon in the environment, not less.

Personally: I think hybrid / electric is a better path to go down, although I think we should be burning corn liquor for fuel as well.

And 1 mo' thing: the conspiracy theorist in me can't help but notice how gas prices are falling as we come closer to election time.

I don't agree with that. Not one political party can cay "we did that". However, the conspiricay theorist in me says, take three steps forward and two steps back.
After a couple of months paying almost $3.00 a gallon, we're all happy to pay $2.30. Only 2 years ago, anything over $2.00 would have been an outrage, but now we are happy to pay that much. I guess Exxon just needed an way to make more money.
