17" tires

17" tires

Postby 99solarai4 » Sat Apr 05, 2003 8:20 pm

I am looking at getting a set of 17x7" Konig Tantrums with 225/45/17 tires.
I did a search to find the proper offset but couldn't find any that talked about the +40 that the tantrum comes in. Will it fit right?
Also, which tires are better......Nitto or Falken? If it helps I will only be using these in the warm months so snow traction is not an issue.
Thanks

First, I am running with the +40offset 225/45/17 setup and it fits nice and doesn’t rub or anything. Second, I think that you should purchase whatever size wheel you want. IMO an 18 is too big for an i4, but on the Solara, a pretty big car, the 18 seems to look the best. Also, remember there is a slight ride quality trade off. It is your car, do what you want.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

18 looks good, i hav them on my 99 sle. But it's a sacrifice with the ride quality. Oh well, just slow down on bumpy roads.

For those of you with 18' wheels/tires and have used different tires...which tires have given you the best ride quality?

Best ride quality? That's kind of tough since most 40 series tires give harsh rides anyway. I'm still on Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s...and after a few thousand miles on them and a very good canyon carving drive last saturday, my tires are still rolling smooth. Yokohama Parada Spec 2's are not the tire for ride quality. Performance yes, everyday driving...no way. My choices are Yokohama AVS ES100 and any of the Michelin Pilot Series.

Thanks Ryan- I was set on getting the AVS ES100's so that's good to hear. I know it won't be as good as the OEM 16's but I'd still be nice to have as smooth of a ride as possible.

Proper offset for ANY Solara is +40 to +45.
