First of all

And wheres the second of all....

BTW, didn't the SLE come standard with the immobilizer system?

Second part was supposed to be in reference to the non immobilizer system units. I don't think all models came with the immobilizer system standard. But yes most all SLE's i've seen have it.

yeah, 02 and up has the trunk release on the remote

youre trunk release is in the golvebox?
i didnt think solaras (or any toyota) had that...
(if you didnt want a valet getting into your trunk, turn the key to the left to lock the trunk, and then give them the valet key)

Yes, 02 has remote trunk release and the trunk release button inside the car in in the glove box. I thought it was kinda weird they placed it there. The dealer told me that it was a safety feature for you to be able to just lock the glove box when your car is valet parked. The valet key only works on the ignition and not on the trunk. Pretty practical IMO.

I AGREE! frigin KIA's lock when the key is in the ignition (hence KIA=key in automobile  )

I was happy cause my car didn't do that..then of course i got the car stater and now it locks when the key is in the ignition, then it unlocks when the key is out of the ignition. I hate it! I'm gonna somehow manage to lock my keys in the car one of these days

my dad's 97 chevy lumina locks when the key is in the ignition and
my mom's 92 chrysler new yorker locks when you hit 20mph

Here is a simple idea.... If you want the doors to lock then upgrade your security and get an alarm that has the option....

i have an 02 SE also and it seems like my locks automatically lock at random but never when the key is in the ignition. sometimes it locks when i get out and close the doors, sometimes it doesn't

Sounds like you have an aftermarket alarm installed on your car.

Hmm interesing. Yeah the power trunk release switch was placed in the glovebox on my 95 Avalon XLS. It's an american car design. Many Buicks, Olds and etc have their power trunk switch in the glovebox.

My 99 SE locks and unlocks when the key is turned on and off (a feature which can be turned off). But it won't let you lock the door if it's ajar if the key is in the ignition, to keep you from locking your keys in.

Don't worry. Thats not a bad thing that you have an aftermarket alarm.

i'm driving a loaner gen 5 today. it locks automatically, but does NOT unlock automatically. but just opening the door handle, from the inside (of course), will unlock it (you do not have to manually unlock it).

Uh, to clarify that auto-lock feature on stock 02+ Solaras. It's actually a protection mechanism. When you open your locks with the keyless entry, it counts 2 minutes. After that, it locks itself again unless you open at least a door.
