I had this idea to have a full length custom exhaust made, eliminating the cat ( some of my fellow socal solara guys might remember me talking about it )
After alot of research and some testing was done, I decided to ditch it and go for a high flow cat... but that didnt work out too well either ( not CA legal, so theyll still get you )
Finally i gave up
im just gonna run cat back, try to find a decent set of headers ( jpp maybe ) and a Y Pipe ( maybe )
IMO unless you find a nice, legal high flow cat just keep your factory cat. It makes a difference, but in the end the difference isnt enough to pay fix it tickets up the as.s

hmmm well right now my plans are.... swapping my auto transmission to manual (if you guys say its worth it) :D i'll probably asking around some toyota dealers or something for that.... then after getting my auto to manual.... i'll go for a v6 swap to get rid of my i4.... then after v6... i'll supercharge it....hahahhahahahahaha OH MY GOD GUYS!!! :o is this all worth it??? or am i just gonna be burning a whole lot of cash... its so hard to NA a solara when our aftermarket is so weak.... so should i go with my dream modding a solara... or should i just trade in the solara for a rice rocket :-? thanks for all the future input

i seriously think you are burning yourself a FAT hole.

its gonna cost about 3k for labor and parts to change it to manual.

v6 and buying a new block will cost about 2 grand.

and s/cing it, that is IF you find one buy the time you finish all of your mods, will put a pretty large hole in your pocket.

i would get rid of the car, and start off with a v6.

theres a silver 5sp 99 solara with 88XXX miles being sold on ebay right now, give taht a try.

man, i would just buy the turbosolara going for 8500 or just buy a V6 allready s/c'd. itll save you the pain and money when all you are trying to do is save the shell of your current car. BTW, i4 and v6 trannys are different, so swapping your tranny now is worthless

On my old accord board we could do an auto to manual swap for about 800 if we did the labor our selves, Junkyard parts then rebuild the tranny and new clutch.

hmmm, maybe to save on your expenses and still keep your current car, why not consider getting a spare v6 s/c'd car or the turbosolara for cheap? I've allready shopped around since I was thinking of a v6 manual swap and the prices are stupid expensive if done right (new clutch, master/slave cylinder etc etc, not to mention the labor) I say all those things because you have a i4 and its pretty much gonna be all replaced. I understand the car present thing, but consider a car thats done for performance enjoyment and keep the current car you have now for a daily driver. Not being hostile, just talking about economic options.

Yeah I agree with what every one else says. By the time you buy the motor and keep in mind you have to get one with a tranny. That could cost quite a bit of pennies. Plus think of the labor costs if you dont do it yourself. Then there are always unforseen events. By the time you do all that you would have been better off just trading your solara for another. What year is your car? I couldn't find that. Cause if you have the 2.4L you can probably use some Scion TC parts (aka supercharger) to beef up your motor.
