Stock Strut + Lowering springs...

Stock Strut + Lowering springs...

Postby Mr_Chunks » Fri Oct 06, 2006 7:28 pm

.... People tell me dont do it. Its horrible for your car
And I know it is, but i can imagine if I have stock strut + s tech for like a month it wouldnt destroy the suspension or anything would it? I mean, i walked out of work today lookin at the 18s on my car and im already sick of the car lookin like its on stilts :(

I already have s techs on the way but my account has reduced to not nearly enough for struts kuz of my freakin insurance payment.... so itll be at least 2-4 weeks before i can get the struts ( if that, i owe some money too )

Any feedback?

Well.....Everyone says that lowering springs + stock struts = "death to suspension" But IMHO they're not really that bad. I've ran with stock toyota struts w/ TRD springs and it ran okay for 80,000 miles. But if your struts are garbage now then you might as well wait till you have new struts to put onto the new lowering springs, just to save yourself a couple trips to the shop just to do your suspension twice. So yeah....just save up and get new struts so you do everything once.

It wont be a problem for a short time.

But then you need to install it TWICE, since is either gunna cost you more time or money in the long run.

Just deal with it until you have both. I'm on 18" stiltz too, and have no plans to get dropped before winters out.

read this:

I'm at 44K miles on this setup and counting. Also, i'm proving a lot of critiques wrong! But this was for trd's (rebranded eibach's). So if you don't like the answers...learn it yourself!

install both at the same time cause its a real pain to install, you dont want to do it twice yourself or pay for it twice. Plus doing things right the first time around really pays off. Just wait, I know its hard but its worth it.

I ran Eibachs with the stock suspension for about 6 months.......BAD IDEA.

I was bouncing up and down all over the freeway. The car would often bottom out over almost any bumps. I still have marks under my car from those unfortunate incidents. I even got stuck trying to get out of a gas station because the bottom frame was stuck against a high part of the road.

Switched to some Tokico struts and the problem was solved.

Like everyone has been stating above, do everything right the first time because it is expensive to do it twice. we all know how much of a pain it is to get to the rear struts. you can get some tokicos or kyb for like 3 to $500.
