Hey guys, i need your help figuring out what's wrong with my car. On the way to work today, i came to a stop at a light and when i put my car in gear to go, the clutch stuck. so my gears won't catch and they are only slightly engaged. i cruised to a little park and ride area and parked my car but i don't know what i should do.

does anyone have any ideas what's wrong with my car? also, what would be my cheapest option for fixing it? and how much do you guys think it would cost me to get this fixed?

thanks for all your help. if anyone could recommend someone that could help me, i'm in irvine, ca. thanks again.

ps. oh yea, my car is a 2001 solara 4-cyl stick

You might have lost hydraulics (e.g. a hose leak). Have someone pull out the clutch by hand and see if any fluid is spurting out anywhere.

thanks for the response. the pedal for the clutch comes back up but it feels like the clutch is still pressed in. there is very little pressure when i press down on the clutch pedal.

everyone i call seems to think i need a new clutch. and i was quoted for $800. does that sound right?

also, i forgot to mention, my car had a rough start this morning and i'm not sure if this is somehow related. i've been having rough starts and toyota was telling me it had to do with the idle control valve but i wonder if it is somehow related to this. any more suggestions? thanks. would putting transmission fluid help?

my car has 74k miles.
