larger rear rotors?

Postby scdsolara619 » Thu Oct 05, 2006 8:00 pm

What's up guys,

Does anyone know if there are larger rear rotors available for the V6 Solara? Maybe not ones that are made for the Solara specifically, but something that will have the same lug size/pattern, drum diameter and same depth of the drum surface etc (for another vehicle etc.)

Thanks for any help

dont get larger ones, just stick with OEM size. Trust me, getting brembos brings your rotor closer to the wheels which give the appearence of bigger rotors.
At this time there is no rear full brake kit to conver to bigger rotors and calipers but brembo has the GT kit for the front of our cars for around 1800... which is probably alot more than you wanna pay to stop
Id just get brembo or powerslots on all 4 corners, get yourself some OEM pads and call it a day.

The reason I'm asking is becuase I can get Brembo four piston calipers, pads etc from Shelby GT500, I would custom make the bracket, of course but I'll need a 12" rotor or larger for the rear to accomodate the big caliper. If this was for the front I would be much easier but because of out disc in drum setup on the rear I'll need to find a rotor that will fit. What about a late model twin turbo supra rear rotor, those are 12.7" diameter, have the same lug pattern but I'm not sure about the rear drum part. I called several dealers to get measurements but nobody has one in stock.
It will take some time and research, but in the end I'll have a maching set of stoppers in the rear...

why? rear brake only contribute less than 25% of yoru braking power.

solara rear brake has a drum mechanism for parking brake while most of rear wheel drive cars do not have same kind of brake.

I understand that the front/rear balance is approx 80/20 or 75/25 but like I said I can get the parts for virtually nothing and it would be obviously mostly for looks, right now I have the ROTORA kit on the front and when you look @ the rear brakes they are virtually non-existent (compared to the front). That's all. I wouldn't want to spend $1800-$2000 to upgrade rear brakes just for looks. It'll probably cost me 1/3 of that.
