Aftermarket Ignition Systems

Hello fellow gearheads, you will have to excuse me because over the past few years i have owned nothing but 1 honda. I know Im the outcast, I do have a serious question though. Im a proud owner of a 03' 1MZ-FE with 5 miles on it, oh did i forget to say it was out of the car and im gonna transplant it in a MR2!. but anyway my cousin is a toyota tech at a dealership and has been researching a few things for me, first thing i would like to go with an aftermarket ignition, doesnt sound like a big deal but i have heard that the stock coil/over plug tends to burn out rather quickly when a high output ignition is put onto them. the only thing im wanting to know is it true or false? who would know the limits? any help appreciated, thanks[/quote]

well as i said i have a toyota tech at my disposal and all the information about the swap. shouldnt be that bad actually . except the wiring. but again i have toyota manuals to use. im wantong to drop a 150 shot direct port on top also. it will take me a good 3 months to save and build the bottom, but hey, all the better to mop the shitboxs with. oh and thanks for the luck.

Are you talking a whole new ignition or a component like the Igintion Solutions Plasma Booster or the new MSD ignition control that works with Toyota Direct Ignition systems?

The 1MZ-FE swap in MR2 was featured in the magazine copule months ago.

I forgot what mag was that, but it was pretty detail.

Are you talking a whole new ignition or a component like the Igintion Solutions Plasma Booster or the new MSD ignition control that works with Toyota Direct Ignition systems?

more or less that is what im asking, i just dont know if any aftermarket companies make anything like a replacement coil over set up/DIS for the 1MZ. just dont want to beat around the bush buying coils every 3 months or so. thanks josh

Nope sorry. What you should be more worry about is blowing your knock sensors than blowing the coilpacks on the ignition. I have yet to hear someone fry their OEM ignition system because of upgrades. The TDI distributorless system is pretty solid and reliable. As for knock sensors...you will blow those frequently...no one has yet found an alternative for it.
