Has anyone heard if Toyota is going to introduce a new Solara for 2004 based on the new Camry? If so, if and when will we see a convertible?

Because it takes time to produce the convertible since the work is subbed out to another company. Second, in order to test the market first...they release the regular model first just to be assured of sales.

Does anyone know if the 2004 Solara, Convertible or otherwise, will be offered in a 5-speed?

Actually yes...5spd Automatic . The Solara Convertible will never be offered in a manual tranny. And it probably never will.

The whole 5-Speed auto idea is from the sienna (since it's using the 3mz) so it's assumed to be the same tranny

If the Solara wants to compete with the 6-speed Accord v6... then Toyota MAY consider releasing a 6-speed manual... but it's highly unlikely unless they change the "luxury" style of the Solara into a "sports" style :D or, at least, a good balance of the both

We truely won't know until we see pics of the new solara and start to see the performance stats. I personally believe toyota is going to take a real sporty approach to the new solara and thus may release a convertible with stick because no one else in the market has one. Toyota has nothing in the luxury sport section, so maybe the new solara will fill the void.

No. If you haven't noticed with the introduction of the 2002 ES300, it came with the 5spd Auto ECT-i. The same tranny used in the Sienna, RX330 and the later 2003 Camry V6 models.

The '04 Solara will be out about Feb '04. It will be available only in V6 and is actually made a convertable, not a coupe then chopped up. It will have the 3.3 liter and 5 speed auto with the sequential shift same as the coupe.
