If your hood is from VIS, then I would say that you need hood pins. I have known a lot people with hoods from them that pop open. I have a Fiber Images hood. There quality is a lot better but if you would like to play it safe, then go with the pins. I have some Sparco pins but I just haven't had the time to get them installed. With Solara's, there are not many choices for where the pins are gonna be at though. The shop will let you know. Also, be careful when drilling the holes, carbon fiber hoods crack easily.

i've seen lots of cars w/ CF hoods that have popped open... hood pins are a definate MUST if the quality of the hood is questionable (cough VIS cough) but I would just have them installed just as a safety precaution...

The guy's hood that popped here was IcrazychrisI

He was going like 40 mph and it popped... The guy @ ViS said that the pins were not needed, but are recommended... So then, if they are not needed, you would think the hood would be ok up to 70 mph (highway speeds)... VIS, we salute you!
