timing belt

timing belt

Postby Solara916 » Sun Nov 12, 2006 11:50 am

I went into Goodyear to get a quote on a 90k mile maintenance. They say i should get my timing belt and water pump replaced. How necessary is that? I've already had my water pump changed once, and I think that was unnecessary then. All in all they want to charge me about 1k for all the services and labor.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

if you want to go to the dealer, ask if they have a coupon running around. which most likely they always do.

and to the OP- to get to the timming belt the water pump is right there with it, so its like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone.

Has anyone gotten a dealer deal with a S/C set up? What are people paying for a belt replacement with S/C?

Its 90k for belts for all Solara engines but the 2AZ. 2AZ never needs their timing chains changed.

60K is plugs, 90k is belts.

I dont believe the water pump is actually part of the Toyota standard maintenance schedule and should last the lifetime of your car with other proper maintenance. However, many mechanics change them together as the labor is almost exactly the same in getting to the timing belt as getting to the water pump. If youve already had your pump changed, you dont need to change it again. Be aware that the labor for the pump and belts should be about the same, 90% of the work is the same for both - If they are charging you full labor for both, you're getting double charged.
