Removing the cigarette lighter

Removing the cigarette lighter

Postby Smoothro » Mon Nov 06, 2006 3:54 pm

I needed to replace the plastic center trim piece in my car that goes around the radio, clock, etc. I already have the new piece, and have removed all of the little componets from the old one, except the cigarette lighter. I would really like to transfer this over because it nice having two power sources. Can anyone offer any tips on taking out the cigarette lighter?
Thanks

I tried using force, and actually broke one of the clips, and it still won't come out. I twisted two of the clips to where the holes are, but it is still something holding it in place.

i did. what exactly are you trying to replace? the center dash console??

the plugs on the back of the cigarette lighter should just pop off. if anything is holding it back, it might be a tab that locks it in place. push the tab on the plug (if there is one) and pull.

yeah, I bought a new center plastic trim piece, to replace the one that was cracked when my car was broken into. The peice itself does not include the cigarette lighter, clock and change tray. So, I have to insert the old ones into the new piece.

Thanks Rene, I'll have you look at it this Saturday to see if you can figure it out.
