See, if they had released the pics and got some input on the project...

Stupid stupid stupid. Please remind me again about how it was all done in the US. The design, the engineering, the production... Yuck.

It just sad that the rear looks like SC430 but it's an FWD.

I don't really like it. All this hype was blown out of proportion.

Engine wise...bad choice in comparison to it's direct competitors...the Accord and Altima.

Exterior, you have a mix of Celica (pointy headlights...blah) Monte Carlo, Dodge Avenger and Pontiac Vibe front...and Edfrsd's Gen 5 Carisma kit action in the lower rear bumper. Also looks like no need for a Molly Designs kit since it looks like there are OEM pieces that are already incorporated into the package. The front looks decent at a certain angle but I guess the rest will take getting used to. NOT.

Man, I wish they (Toyota) could do something more for the "I can't afford a Supra" crowd. This sucks. Can't they give their "sports" car some life?
I mean, getting dusted by a stock Altima?

Darn this barf, it just won't come off!

hehehe

I don't remember where i read that...but lexus was toying with a idea of bringing out another coupe...and solara was the 'chosen' mate-donor... (in that sence..i see a definate lexus in the future)..but personally, an IS coupe would make things better for lexus!

I agree with what others said about it looking like a tiburon from the back.. the slope on the trunk, fat sides....

They should have gone more in the direction they were going w/ the 2002's and 2003s

Sad to see what used to be a great car turn out like this

Now I await the Supra and if it sucks I'm gone as a Toyota owner.

Hmmm Audi and BMW are looking good right now!

Nope... they'll laugh at Gen 2 owners :P but I'm sure it will still have a handful of minor changes before final production (right?)

We'll just have to see it in person to get the full effect =x

WOW I'm so glad I have a gen 1 solara. The interior is very nice and sporty but WTF did they do to the rear. I understand toyota was trying to modernize the car but boy did they screw up. The rims aren't sporty enough and they ruined the best part on the solara (the rear)

I like the fact that its a little smaller, it'll make it more of a competitor for the Acura TSX or accord if it wasn't so ugly! It does have a few nice angles though

Yeah, looking at the Gen2 more and more, it reminds me of how large and frumpy looking compared to the Gen1. It looks overgrown and too big for the powerplant it has. Sad move Toyota.

happy b-day to gen2 solara - not!

Postby tweazy » Thu Apr 17, 2003 11:13 am

I am so disappointed with the way it turned out. not only does the rear look like a tiburon, the side/door panels also resembles the older gen1 tiburon. well, the glares it reflects at least. also, whats up with the dinner plate sized toyota emblems? those should be smaller.

I've always seen the solara as an upscale (though it's really not) kinda car. why the tiburon-esque styling ques? it should just say SC430 like the old one is to the SC400.

gen1 solaras imo looks the best.
